The Empowered Caregiver’s Guide to Dementia: Understand and Manage the Disease, Plan for Caring and Financial Challenges, and Balance Your Personal Needs to Thrive
Embrace a thriving mindset and discover purpose and inner peace amidst the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia.
Many have heard or read about caring for someone with dementia. Still, it’s only through personal experience that one truly understands its complex challenges and unique perspectives.
Financial, medical, hygiene, dietary, safety, and legal issues create a multi-year mosaic of caregiver burdens and previously unknown responsibilities.
Being a caregiver can be isolating with the myriad of complex emotions that are difficult to express to those who are not undergoing the same experiences.
Sometimes, you feel elated-when your loved one is having a great day, seeking your company, and remembering meaningful events. On other days, you feel helpless and alone as you watch the person you love slowly fade. The progressive loss of key relationship components, including commitment and emotional, cognitive, and physical intimacy, tears at your core.
· On these days, it feels like nothing will work to ease the overwhelming wave of ever-expanding responsibilities, decision-making, and heartache.
· This caregiving journey, however, though riddled with pain, grief, and exhaustion, can be a path of love, deep connection, and unexpected grace.

This book is a comprehensive guide to all caregivers. It stresses the importance of caregivers taking care of themselves and provides ideas on how caregivers can grow and thrive throughout this experience. It shows how taking care of yourself can provide a more positive experience for themselves and the care recipient. Although I have not been in a caregiver role at this point, the more I read, I could relate to many friends and family that have been in this very difficult role. I think it is helpful for everyone to read this for a better understanding of how the role of caregiving impacts people you know and how you may help to support what they are dealing with. Thanks to the author in sharing her experience and guidance to help others navigate through this experience.
I just finished reading this book and was truly impressed at the easy to follow information and tips the author gives caregivers, and it truly felt as if you had someone, not just a book, to go to for encouragement and guidance. The tone of the author is comforting and truly encourages you in the hard, painful task of caring for someone with dementia., The author’s main emphasis is on the caregivers, making them realize the importance of their own well being as an essential factor in caring for others. I personally feel that this book will help caregivers realize that they are not alone, that they don’t have to feel guilty of taking care of themselves while at the same time looking after their loved one with dementia; on the contrary, it will make them a better caregiver. Great informative book
My wife has Alzheimer’s so I have had to manage all the issues addressed in the book. The author has presented the most comprehensive view from the Caregiver’s point of view. The insight she brings to the subject is extraordinary. Difficult things to deal with are discussed in an open forum that is far more helpful than most. Having read many sources, I feel more empowered to provide informed compassionate care than ever before. You will be surprised how much this book can help you as a Caregiver. Everyone will get something useful out of it. John
My son's wife in early 60's was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I feel that this book will prove to be extremely helpful to my son as he cares for his wife in the coming years. The information provided will give guidance to both of them and help in understanding the ups and downs and how to actually enjoy the time they have. Thank you for writing your thoughts and suggestions so that others may benefit.
